Diversi-Tenna 2.4GHz 5.5dBi Diversity Antenna System

The Connex Wireless MM24-5DI Diversity Antenna System is a high performance wireless antenna system designed to provide improved performance of wireless access points, routers and PC Cards which have 2 antenna ports. These wireless systems with 2 antenna ports are known as diversity antenna systems.

Typically in an indoor environment or congested urban environments, microwave signals will fade as they are cancelled out due to reflections. This is called multipath. A good example of a multipath effect is when you are sitting at a light in your car and the radio station you are listening to fades but if you move the car just a foot or two, the radio station comes in much stronger. This is the effect of a null caused by multipath reflections. This effect can be minimized by spacing two identical gain antennas at a minimum distance apart. Wireless equipment manufacturers recognized the improved performance in diversity systems when they created equipment with two antennas. The problem is that because of constraints in the size of their enclosures, they couldn’t create the required spacing for a high performance diversity antenna system.

For best performance of a space diversity antenna system, the antennas should be spaced at a minimum of 2X the wavelength with a recommended spacing of 10X the wavelength for best results. For 802.11b and g systems used in indoor Access Points and wireless routers, the frequency is 2.4GHz (2400MHz). The wavelength is 4.92 inches; 2X the wavelength = 10 inches; 10X the wavelength = 49 inches. It’s clear to see why equipment manufacturers couldn’t space their antennas at the optimum spacing.

Connex Wireless created the MM24-5DI to address this problem and give users a true high performance space diversity antenna system which will help to eliminate the effects of multipath and give better reception in indoor and congested urban environments. With their 5’ low loss cable the antennas can be spaced at the suggested 49" spacing to give best performance. The high gain 5.5dBi antennas feature a non-slip magnetic base and mount kit to allow universal mounting; on a wall, on a desk, on a ceiling or on a window. They come with a variety of connector options to adapt to any available wireless equipment with two removable antennas or dual antenna ports.
